Greensboro, NC - The Winston-Salem State University women's cross country team had a rough day on Saturday afternoon at the 2004 Greensboro Cross-Country Invitational as they ran into some very stiff competition and placed 11th out of 12 teams in the largest North Carolina cross-country event of 2004.
The Lady Rams would finish the event in 11th place overall as they defeated only Bluefield State University after being saddled with 275 points overall. The Lady Blues brought up the rear with 284 points.
The top three teams in the invitational were Division I powers Longwood University (1st with 17 points) and North Carolina A&T (2nd with 44 points) and Division II frontrunner Northern Kentucky (third with 21 points).
Despite the 11th place finish, the Lady Rams were one of only two CIAA teams to participate in the event, with Shaw University placing 4th overall with 105 points.
Leading the way for the Lady Rams was Janessa Webb who finished 45th overall with a time of 23:59 over the five kilometer course.
The Lady Rams have now concluded the 2004 CIAA cross-country regular season and will have nearly a month off to train for the upcoming CIAA cross-country championship which will take place in Cary, NC on October 21st, 2004 at 3:00 pm.
