GREENSBORO, NC - The Winston-Salem State University cross country teams continued their strong 2009 season with another great performance at the 26th Annual Greensboro XC Invitational at Hagan Stone Park in nearby Greensboro, N.C. The Rams posted a third place finish among NCAA Division I teams while the Lady Rams finished fourth.
The Rams finished third among NCAA Division I teams with 73 total team points. Only Virginia Commonwealth and Marshall were able to post better team totals. However, no one was better than WSSU freshman Andrew Chebii, who continued his great season with his second first place finish of the season. Chebii won the 8K meet with a 25:29.1 in the event. Sophomore Aaron Barnes had the second best WSSU finish of the day, placing 20th in 27:04.7. WSSU junior Desmond Wiggan was 16 seconds behind Barnes as he finished 30th in 27:30.2.
The Lady Rams posted a fourth place finish among NCAA Division I teams, with a team total of 84 points in the event. WSSU freshman Tyrah Winfrey led the way for the Lady Rams with an 11th-place finish in 20:39 at the 5K event. Fellow freshman Manuala Rigaud was a close 15th in 21:30. Sophomore Ashley Lawson placed 17th with a 21:59.
