WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Winston-Salem State scored five runs in the first inning and four in the fifth to roll over the visiting Hilltoppers of West Liberty, 14-3 at BB&T Ballpark on Friday evening.
The win moved WSSU to 3-4 on the season, while West Liberty of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, falls to 0-1.
Travis Moore went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and two rbi's, while Paco Martin, Aaron jones, German Reyes and Brandon Harrison each finished 2 for 3. Martin scored three runs and had an rbi, while Jones, Reyes and Harrison each scored one run and had one run batted in. Tyler hickernell went one for three with one run scored and two runs batted in nad Rafael Gonzalez finished one for four with two runs scored. Conner Andrus went one for two with a run scored and three rbi's for the game.
Kyle Boraski picked up the win for Winston-Salem State, throwing five innings, striking out six, giving up five hits and two earned runs. Ryan Smith came in to relieve Boraski in the sixth inning and continued to shut the Hilltoppers down, striking out six while surrendering no hits and no runs.
Travis Denman led West Liberty going two for four with two rbi's and one run scored, while Anthony Pierro finished two for three with a run scored.
Drew Peterson picked up the loss, going just 3.1 innings, giving up six hits, seven runs, (five earned) with three walks.
