WSSU Rams Late Rally Beats Shepherd, 4-3

WINSTON-SALEM, NC -- Winston-Salem State scored one runs in each of the last three innings to come from behind to beat Shepherd University 4-3 at BB&T Ballpark on Thursday evening.

Shepherd jumped on WSSU quick, as they were able to plate three runs in the second inning, on four hits.

But Winston-Salem State would also get on the scoreboard in the second, as Chris Constantine singled to lead off the inning. Conner Andrus singled two batters later, advancing Constantine. Brandon Harrison followed with another single to load the bases. Paco Martin's sacrifice fly scored Constantine, to pull WSSU to within 2 at 3-1.

Conner Andrus would pull the WSSU Rams closer, when he led off the sixth inning with a solo blast to left field, cutting Shepherd's lead to one, at 3-2.

After a Shepherd pitching change in the seventh inning, WSSU got a two out rally going, when Aaron Jones singled, followed by two consecutive singles by Levi Grassley and Chris Constantine. Travis Moore was inserted to pinch hit, and came through in a big way, singling to right field scoring Grassley and tying the game at 3-3.

Winston-Salem State would take the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, after Brandon Harrison began the inning with a single to left center, followed by a bunt base hit by Paco Martin. Rafael Gonzalez sacrificed the runners over on a bunt, and German Reyes was intentionally walked, loading the bases. Aaron Jones would picked up the game winning rbi on a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Harrison, and giving WSSu a 4-3 lead.

Michael Drye would come in and shut down Shepherd, for WSSU's sixth win of the season.

Chris Constantine led the WSSU Rams at the plate, going three for four with a run scored. Brandon Harrison, Paco Martin, Levi Grassley and Conner Andrus each picked up two hits, while Martin, Aaron Jones, Travis Moore and Andrus each had a run batted in.

JR Wright picked up the win for Winston-Salem State, while Michael Drye picked up his third save of the season.

Matt Copley took the loss for Shepherd.

Winston-Salem State will take on Shippensburg University at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, and will follow that up playing Davis & Elkins 7:00 p.m. on Sunday night at BB&T Ballpark.
