WSSU Rams Cruise To A 86-65 Win Over Fayetteville State

FAYETTEVILLE, NC -Winston-Salem State's Justin Glover scored a career high 21 points and the Rams jumped out quick on the Fayetteville State Broncos and never looked back in route to 86-65 win Saturday night at Capel Arena on the FSU campus.

With the win, the #19 WSSU Rams improved to 15-3 overall, 8-1 in Central intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play and 2-1 in the Southern Division. Fayetteville State falls to 8-10 overall, 3-6 in CIAA play and 0-3 in the Southern Division.

Winston-Salem State jumped on the Broncos early with an 8-0 run in the first four minutes before FSU would even get on the board. The Rams would out score the Broncos 13-7 over the next few minutes to take a 21-9 lead halfway through the first half.

The closest FSU would be able to get to the Rams was a 13 point spread, but WSSU would remain hot and finish the first half with a 18 point advantage with a 43-25 half time lead.

Fayetteville State would start the second half inspired and coupled with some sloppy play, caught the Rams on their heels and the Broncos rolled off four quick points, prompting a timeout from the Rams.

FSU would cut the Rams lead to 13 points but WSSU would once again force the pressure and before long the game would be put out of reach for the home standing FSU team.

The Rams would increase their lead to a game high 27 point lead with 3:247 left on a Dominic Alston alley-oop dunk from Marcus Wells, with the score 77-50.

Winston-Salem State University never trailed in the game and the game was never tied, as the Rams would finish with the 86-65 win.

WSSU held marked advantages in points in the paint: 38-30; Points off turnovers: 29-12; 2nd chance points: 20-11; and doubled up the Broncos with a 44-22 advantage in bench scoring.

For WSSU, Justin Glover scored a game high 21 points and had a season high five steals, while Maurice Nash came off the bench to score a career high 13 points and five rebounds. Dominic Alston scored nine points, as did Wakefield Ellison, who started for the first time in his career at WSSU. Victor Holloway added eight points and Marcus Wells had a career high 11 assists and three steals in the victory.

Fayetteville State was led by Anthony Shelton's 17 points, while Tyrrel Tate would add 16 points for the Broncos.

Winton-Salem State will travel to Johnson C. Smith University at 7:30 pm on Wednesday night in Charlotte, NC.
