#16 WSSU Rams Roll Past The JCSU Golden Bulls, 92-82

CHARLOTTE, NC - The #16 Winston-Salem State University Rams rode the heat wave of their hot shooting, going 58% from the floor on the evening, and used a solid rebounding effort in route to a 92-82 win over Johnson C. Smith University at Brayboy Gym on the JCSU campus.

In one of the fastest paced game the Rams have played all season, both teams started hot, but the home team raced out in front of WSSU early, 7-3, before two of the CIAA's top scorers took control of the game.

WSSU's Justin Glover and JCSU's Trevin Parks would heat up and put on a show in the first half, as they went back and forth, basket for basket for nearly the entire first half.

Justin Glover, who has been the Rams dunk aficionado during his two year career, once again brought a gym to its feet as he took an alley-oop pass from Marcus Wells on a face break and rose high above the rim and flushed it home – left handed.

Trevin Parks was deadly early on, and kept the Golden Bulls close, scoring from all points from around the perimeter.

The Rams would take the lead for good at 23-22 before Glover would heat up again, and expand on their lead.

WSSU would run up the defensive effort and took a 42-37 lead at the final first half media timeout. They would hold for the final shot at the end of the first half, and Kimani Hunt made a nice move and scored inside as the buzzer sounded, giving WSSU a 50-45 halftime lead.

As the second half began, Justin Glover would once again make the highlight reels as he split two defenders on his way to the basket and dunked hard over two Golden Bull players, sending the vocal Ram contingent into a frenzy, as well as the Golden Bull student section.

But the second half belonged to Wakefield Ellison as he was en fuego, making all five three point attempts and going two for two from the free throw line. His 3-pointer with 16:33 remaining gave the Rams a 12 points lead.

Winston-Salem State would increase their lead to 14 points on two occasions, and more dunks free & throws down the stretch from the from Rams would give WSSU the win, 92-82.

With the victory, #16 ranked WSSU improves to 16-3 overall, 9-1 in the CIAA and 3-1 in the Southern Division. Johnson C. Smith falls to 13-7 overall, 6-2 in the CIAA and 2-2 in the Southern Division.
