WSSU's Fields and Owens Named 1st Team All-Super Region; Johnson and Sabb Named 3rd Team

BROOKFIELD, ILL - Winston-Salem State football defensive duo, Carlos Fields and Donnie Owens, were named first team 2013 Don Hansen's Football Gazette All Super Region 1 Team announced yesterday.

Quarterback Rudy Johnson and offensive lineman, Michael Sabb were named to the third team of the 2013 Don Hansen's Football Gazette All Super Region 1 Team.

Fields was an integral part of the #1 ranked WSSU defensive unit in 2013, as he backed that up with his superior play.  In his stellar career, Fields amassed 322 tackles, 34.5 tackles for loss yards, 6 interceptions, 23 passes broken up, eight quarterback hurries, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. During his time at WSSU, his team went an amazing 45-6 in four years.

Owens finished his WSSU career playing in 41 games over three season, with 153 total tackles to go with 34 tackles for losses, 19.5 sacks, 14 quarterback hurries, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.

Johnson finished the 2013 season with 2,401 passing yards by completing 177 of 280 passes with 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Johnson also rushed for 487 yards and six touchdowns. He was also named first team All-CIAA.

Sabb was named first team All-SWAC in 2013, and was one of the key members of the Rams offensive line at helped lead the CIAA in scoring and yards per game.

Both Johnson and Sabb will return for their senior seniors in 2014 for the WSSU Rams.
