  • Skinner Named to Division II Conference Commissioners Association All-Super Region 2 Team

    CLEVELAND, OH – For the second season in a row, Winston-Salem State senior free safety Daryus Skinner was selected to the 2019 Division II Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) All-Super Region 2 Team. This season, Skinner was a first team selection to the all-region team after earning second team honors last season.
  • Four Rams Named to 2019 CIAA All-Conference Team

    CHARLOTTE, NC – Four members of the Winston-Salem State University defense were honored when the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced the 2019 CIAA All-Conference Team. Three Rams earned first team All-CIAA honors while one earned second team All-CIAA honors.
  • Shaw Named to CIAA All-Rookie Team

    CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams brought home another honor when redshirt-freshman offensive lineman Jaelin Shaw was named to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) All-Rookie Team, Monday afternoon. After playing as one of the key members of the WSSU offensive line, Shaw was recognized as one of the top rookies in the CIAA this season.
  • Rams Close Season with a 31-17 Loss to Fayetteville State

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-6, 3-4 CIAA) looked to close the season with a bang, but some second half struggles proved costly in a 31-17 loss to the Fayetteville State Broncos (8-2, 6-1 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams played a strong game, but the team faded in the second half to take the tough loss.
  • Rams Shut Out in a 21-0 Homecoming Loss to Shaw Bears

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-5, 3-3 CIAA) gave a tremendous effort, but it was not enough when the team took a 21-0 loss to the Shaw Bears (5-4, 4-2 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams gave it their all in the game, but the team could not find answers for a Shaw team that seemed to be a bit more motivated on the day.
  • Rams Defense Clamps Down for a 21-0 Win at Livingstone

    SALISBURY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (4-4, 3-2) used a dominating defensive performance to claim a 21-0 road win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (4-4, 1-4 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the win behind a WSSU defense that saw the team force four Blue Bear turnovers and claimed their first shutout win of the season.
  • Former Rams Great Richard Huntley A Finalist for Black College Football Hall of Fame

    ATLANTA, GA – Former Winston-Salem State running back Richard Huntley moved one step closer to a prestigious honor as he was selected as one of the 26 finalists for the Black College Football Hall of Fame, Thursday morning. The list of finalists included 23 players, two coaches, and a contributor.
  • Allen, Graves Named CIAA Football Players of the Week

    CHARLOTTE, NC – The honors just keep coming in for the Winston-Salem State Rams as sophomore linebacker Kalen Allen and sophomore offensive lineman Kendyl Graves were both named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Football Players of the Week. Allen was honored as the CIAA Linebacker of the Week while Graves was named the CIAA Offensive Lineman of the Week. The honors came in after the Rams’ most impressive overall performance of the season in a 31-10 win over the Saint Augustine’s Falcons.
  • Flowers Named CIAA Defensive Back of the Week

    CHARLOTTE, NC – Winston-Salem State senior defensive back Joshua Flowers capped a tremendous performance when he was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Defensive Back of the Week. He took home the honor after playing the best game of his career in leading the Rams to a 23-7 win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls, Saturday.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (2-4, 1-2 CIAA) put on a tremendous defensive performance to take a 23-7 win over the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (2-4, 1-2 CIAA), Saturday afternoon. The Rams took the win behind a powerful defensive effort that included holding the Golden Bulls to just seven points and forcing four turnovers in the game.
  • Rams Take a Hard-Fought 16-15 Loss at Virginia Union

    RICHMOND, VA –The Winston-Salem State Rams (1-3, 0-1 CIAA) left it all on the field, Saturday. However, it was not quite enough as the team took a 16-15 loss to the Virginia Union Panthers (3-1, 1-0 CIAA). The Rams played one of their best defensive games of the season, but some key miscues late allowed the Panthers to take the win.
  • High Point, Winston-Salem State Announce Furniture City Gridiron Classic

    WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – For the first time since 2010, college football will return to High Point. Winston-Salem State University’s (WSSU) Department of Athletics are partnering with the City of High Point, the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau, the High Point City Council, the Guilford County Board of Commissioners, and Guilford County Schools to create the Furniture City Gridiron Classic. The Rams will take on the Saint Augustine’s Falcons in a CIAA Southern Division matchup on Saturday, Oct. 19, at High Point’s A.J. Simeon Stadium.
  • Kick Off for Rams at Virginia Union Moved Up to 1:00 p.m.

    RICHMOND, VA – Fans of Winston-Salem State University football will have the opportunity to get a slightly earlier start to their action, Saturday, as the Rams’ game at Virginia Union has been moved to a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Hovey Field in Richmond, Va. The Rams and the Panthers were originally scheduled for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff before the time was moved up to 1:00 p.m.
  • Rams' Smith Awarded U.S. Army National ROTC Scholarship

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State University freshman quarterback Tyler Smith was the big winner, Saturday evening as he was awarded a United States Army ROTC National Scholarship. He was awarded over $70,000 to serve as a United States Army ROTC cadet. He was recognized for winning the scholarship prior to kickoff of the Rams’ football game against the Catawba Indians, Saturday evening.
  • Rams Fall Short in 21-14 Loss to Catawba

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – There was no shortage of effort for the Winston-Salem State Rams (0-2), but the effort was not quite enough as the team took a hard-fought 21-14 loss to the Catawba Indians (1-1), Saturday evening. The game came down to a dramatic ending and featured some tough defensive play that gave the Rams their second straight loss of the season.

  • Rams' Season Opener at UNC Pembroke Moved to Saturday

    PEMBROKE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams will have to wait a little while longer before they get the 2019 football season started as Thursday’s football season opener at UNC Pembroke has been moved to Saturday evening with a 7:00 p.m. start. The move was made due to the threat of inclement weather moving through North Carolina Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Rams Football Holds Spirited First Day of Practice

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams football team got an early jump on the 2019 season with their first practice starting at 6:00 a.m., Friday morning. Conditioning and high spirits highlighted the Rams’ first practice of the season with sprints dominating the early portion of the practice session before position group drills closed out the day. 
  • Rams Picked to Finish Second in CIAA South; Sixth Overall in Preseason Predictions

    CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams will have to look to prove the predictions wrong as the team was predicted to finish second in their division and sixth overall in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Preseason Predicted Order of Finish. There is some good news for the Rams as senior free safety Daryus Skinner was a selection for the 2019 CIAA Pre-Season All-CIAA team. ­­

    ROCK HILL, SC – Winston-Salem State University Interim Head Football Coach Robert Massey received a tremendous honor over the weekend when he was inducted into the Sylvia Circle Demons Pop Warner Football Hall of Fame. In addition to being inducted into the hall of fame, his iconic #60 jersey was retired as well.
