WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Former Winston-Salem State defensive back Alex Chandler will carry his Ram pride across the border as the Kingstree, South Carolina native has signed a free agent contract with the Canadian Football League's (CFL) Montreal Alouettes.
Chandler was a three-year starter for the Rams who saw time in 42 games in his career. He finished his career with 130 total tackles and seven interceptions. He recorded two interceptions in three of his four seasons of play with the Rams. He also added 80 yards in kick-off returns during the 2009 season. He had a career-high eight tackles against the Howard Bison on October 4, 2008.
With the signing, Chandler becomes just the second Ram to play professional football since 2008 when former WSSU defensive end, William Hayes was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fourth round of the National Football League (NFL) draft.
