WSSU's McGee, Akah and Free To Participate In 2004 East Coast Bowl

Nov. 26, 2004

Petersburg, VA - Three Winston-Salem State University senior football student-athletes will participate in the 2004 East Coast Bowl on Saturday, November 27th, 2004 in Peterbsurg, VA as they will showcase their talent for professional scouts from around North America.

WSSU senior's Emmanuel Akah (OL), Josh McGee (QB) and Brandon Free (WR) will participate in the All-Star Classic. The 2004 East Coast Bowl game will be held this Saturday, November 27 in Petersburg, Virginia at Historic Cameron Field. The East Coast Bowl game is an annual All-Star football game that features the best Division II and III athletes from across the Mid-Atlantic region. Each year the game continues to grow and has blossomed into a monumental event for the City of Petersburg.

The City of Petersburg, along with the National Football Foundation/College Hall Of Fame co-sponsor the game and pride themselves on the fact that players are provided this opportunity to showcase their ability free of charge. The game is designed such that any and all proceeds generated are used to award a scholarship to a local high school senior who will be continuing his football career at a Division II or III institution.

Players will be reporting to Petersburg on Thursday (Thanksgiving) and will participate in various scout activities, as well as making appearances throughout the community for inspirational purposes.

Leading the group of All-Americans is two-time Gagliardi Finalist, Rocky Myers, a safety from Wesley College (DE). The Gagliardi is reserved for the best overall contributor on the Division III level and to be nominated twice speaks volumes of the kind of athletes that will be in Petersburg over Thanksgiving. Heading the group of Division II participants is the nation's leading tackler, Moises Gordon, a linebacker from Livingstone. Gordon, along with the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year, Charles Roberts (LB, Fayetteville State) will anchor a South defense that includes 5 All-Americans: Luis George (Safety, NC Central), Terrance Edwards (CB, Virginia Union), Justin Jackson (DE, JC Smith), Gordon, and Darren Venable (Safety, Ferrum).
