PETERSBURG, VA – The Winston-Salem State Rams and Lady Rams tennis teams will kick off the 2014 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's and Women's Tennis Championship Tournament next weekend when the teams begin play, Thursday on the campus of Virginia State University.
The Lady Rams will enter the tournament as the fourth seed from the CIAA Southern Division after recording a 7-11 overall record, a 7-6 overall in the CIAA, and a 4-4 record in the CIAA Southern Division. The Lady Rams will begin tournament play when they take on the host Virginia State Lady Trojans in a 10:00 a.m. match, Thursday.
The Rams will enter the tournament seeking to repeat as CIAA champions after defeating the Chowan Hawks for their first team title last season and ending the eight-year reign of the Shaw Bears. The Rams will enter the tournament as the third seed from the CIAA Southern Division with a 7-9 overall record and a 5-4 record in CIAA play. The Rams will enter the tournament with some momentum after a pair of wins in their last two matches. The Rams will open the tournament against the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls, Thursday in a 6:00 p.m. match.
