MOUNT OLIVE, NC – Winston-Salem State University freshman guard Amaya Tucker brought home another honor, Thursday as she was named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State team. Tucker earned second team all-state honors from the NCCSIA and she was among 10 student-athletes from 10 different North Carolina schools who were selected.
The latest honor was one of many for Tucker after a spectacular freshman season. In addition to being named to the NCCSIA All-State team, she was also named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of the Year and she earned a spot on the CIAA All-Conference team. She was also named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team. It was Tucker's great offensive efforts that stood out for her this season. She finished the season as the team's leading scorer, averaging 16.0 points per game. She was especially effective from the three-point line where she was 72-for-180 and ranked third in the CIAA in three-pointers made. Her best game of the season came against Chowan when she scored a career-high 34 points. She hit five three-pointers in that game. Of the 28 games that she played in, she was held to single-digit scoring just three times.
