Rams Close Regular Season with a 7-2 Win at Meredith

RALEIGH, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (11-6) closed the 2019 regular season in style when the team took a 7-2 road win over the Meredith Avenging Angels (6-9), Tuesday afternoon. The win marked the fifth straight for the Rams and gave the team and key non-conference win heading into the post-season.

The Rams opened the match with a dominant performance in doubles play. After taking a default win at #3 doubles, the Rams also took 8-3 wins at both #1 and #2 doubles to take a 3-0 lead heading into singles play.

In singles play, the Rams kept things going. Junior Tay'lor Champion opened things up with a 6-3, 6-3 win at #2 singles that was followed by a 6-4, 6-3 win at #4 singles from freshman Kyrsten Jennelle. Junior Cylah Gaither took a 6-4, 6-2 win at #6 singles while sophomore Avion Harris claimed a 2-6, 6-4, and 11-9 win at #3 singles.

The win wraps up the regular season for the Rams and will give the team an 11-6 record. The team will now await seeding for the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tennis Championship Tournament.
