WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams battled through some tough weather to put on a strong showing at the Second Annual WSSU Invitational Track & Field Meet. In addition to a great performance by the Lady Rams, the meet also featured several great performances by some of the top high school teams in the area.
WSSU freshman Micalyne Zimmerman led the way for the Lady Rams as she dominated the middle distance events at the meet. She won both the women's 1500m run, with a 5:12.55, and the women's 800m run with a 2:33.10. Joining her in leading the team was senior Kristi Baptiste, who won the women's 400m dash with a 58.16.
The Lady Rams finished the day in style when the WSSU 4x400m relay team won against Livingstone with a 4:03.91. After trailing in the opening leg of the relay, the team's final three legs stepped up in style, gaining the lead on the final leg of the event.
The effort capped the second successful run of the WSSU Invitational. The Lady Rams will return to action next Wednesday when the team heads to Columbia, South Carolina to take part in the Gamecocks Invitational. The team will also head to nearby High Point, N.C. to take part in the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University.
