WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams indoor track & field looked sharp in their second meet of the season when they competed in the 2014 JDL College Kick Off Classic at the JDL Fast Track, Saturday. The Lady Rams saw some great performances with wins in the women's 4x400m relay and the women's triple jump.
The Lady Rams recorded a pair of first place efforts at the meet. WSSU senior long jumper Tajanel McNeil continued to be a dominant performer at the JDL Fast Track as she once again won the women's triple jump at the meet. She recorded a 39'10.00" (12.14m) leap to take the win, besting competitors from Wake Forest, North Carolina Central, and Mount Olive. In addition to taking the win, McNeil recorded an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying distance. Her performance set the tone for the Lady Rams for the Rams of the day as the WSSU women's 4x400m relay team followed up the effort with a win in their event as well. The squad recorded a 3:53.59 in the event to win, besting teams from Saint Augustine's, North Carolina Central, and North Carolina A&T.
In addition to the first place wins, the Lady Rams also saw some other quality finishes at the meet as well with sophomore Tametris Morrison placing second in the women's 800m run with a 2:20.08. Junior Raven Covington also had a great day as she placed fourth in the women's 60m dash finals with a 7.60, an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time.
After the meet, the Lady Rams will break for the holidays and will return to action in January when the team returns to the JDL Fast Track to compete in the Wake Forest Open on January 10th.
