ALLENDALE, MI – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams have showed up when it counted with some great performances on the opening day of the 2015 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet. The Lady Rams qualified in all three preliminary events that the team competed in Thursday and will compete for national finals, Saturday.
The Lady Rams' 4x100m relay kicked off the day with a second place finish in the event preliminaries. The squad ran a 45.89, the second best time of the day. Only Lincoln (Mo.) ran a better time with a 45.26 in the event.
The day wasn't over for the Lady Rams with junior sprinter Raven Covington running an 11.55 in the women's 100m dash. In addition to being a school record and a personal best, the time qualified her for the finals of the event as well. WSSU senior Nya Michaux placed 17th in the event with an 11.75 and tied her personal best as well. Sophomore Ro'Daijah Faucette placed 18th in the preliminaries of the women's 400m dash with a 57.22.
Rounding out the day for the Lady Rams was sophomore 400m hurdles runner Tametris Morrison, who placed 6th in the women's 400m hurdles with a 1:00.73. The effort was enough to qualify her for the event finals as well.
The Lady Rams will return to action tomorrow when Michaux takes part in the women's 200m dash and the team's 4x400m relay team takes the track as well.
