    The Winston-Salem State University football team has an exciting season coming to the city of Winston-Salem with five home games and the inauguration of the Winston-Salem Football Classic. The three-day community-centered event is one of the strongest community partnerships in WSSU athletic history with the Rams joining strengths with the City of Winston-Salem and Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System.

    BRADENDON, FL – The track & field season came to an end, Friday, when the junior duo of Ty-Leah Hampton and Fawzia Kheir gave some strong efforts at the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet in Bradenton, Florida. The two took part in their respective preliminary events against the top competition in the nation, Friday evening.

WSSU juniors Ty-Leah Hampton, Fawzia Kheir, and Tametris Morrison will all compete for national championships this weekend.

    NEW ORLEANS, LA – The honors just keep coming in for the Winston-Salem State Rams women’s track & field team as seven student-athletes were selected for the 2016 United States Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II All-Region Team. The Rams earned several selections in both sprint and middle distance events.
  • Morrison, Hampton, and Kheir Selected to Compete in 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet

    For Immediate Release May 17, 2016 Hampton, Kheir, Morrison Selected for 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships WSSU to send three competitors to national championship meet INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Three members of the Winston-Salem State Rams women’s track & field team will have national titles in their sites in the coming weeks. Winston-Salem State sophomore Ty-Leah Hampton and juniors Fawzia Kheir and Tametris Morrison were selected as three of the 377 participants selected to compete in the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet hosted by IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. The trio earned the selections after running some of the top times in their respective events this season. Hampton will have the most work to do among the trio as she was selected to compete in both the women’s 100m dash preliminaries as well as the women’s 200m dash preliminaries. She will enter the meet as the 21st selection with an 11.86 at the 2016 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet. She was also selected to compete in the women’s 200m dash as the 13th selection in the women’s 200m dash after running a 24.01 at the 2016 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The selection marks the second trip to the national championship meet for Hampton as she went last season as a member of the Rams 4x100m relay team last season. Morrison will make also make her second trip to the national championship meet after finishing fifth in the women’s 400m hurdle finals last season. This season, Morrison was the 21st selection after running a 1:00.59 at the 2016 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Kheir was selected to compete in the women’s 800m run preliminaries. She was the 13th selection in the event with a 2:10.10 at the 2016 Liberty Twilight. The 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship Meet will be held on May 26-28th in Bradenton, Florida at the IMG Academy. The Rams took third place with 138.50 points behind the top-ranked Saint Augustine’s Falcons (156) and the third-ranked host Johnson C. Smith Lady Golden Bulls (165).

The Rams totaled 43 points on the day behind some great performances in field events. Almost as importantly, the Rams sent several qualifiers into tomorrow’s finals where the conference championship will be determined.

    NEW ORLEANS, LA – The honors keep rolling in for the Winston-Salem State Rams Indoor Track & Field team as the women’s 4x400m relay team along with senior sprinter Raven Covington and junior 800m runner Taska Johnson were named to the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region Team, Monday. The team honors the top five individuals from each region as well as the top three relay teams from each region as well.

    WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams did it again as the team claimed its second straight Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championship, Monday afternoon. The Rams took the win by a slight margin as they totaled 120 points to claim the title, just 10 points ahead of conference runners-up Johnson C. Smith.

    GENEVA, OH – The Winston-Salem State University Rams women’s track & field team had one of its most impressive performances of the season when the team took first place in the 2016 SPIRE Team Challenge, hosted by the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. As a team, the Rams totaled 151 points to claim first place in the meet. West Virginia Wesleyan was the only other school to reach 100 points in the meet as they totaled 102 points to place second at the meet.
