PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Winston-Salem State Rams track & field team took part in one of the top meets in the nation, Thursday as the team took part in The 123rd Penn Relay Carnival. The Rams competed against some of the top teams in the world. The Rams started the meet with some impressive performances in the relays and field events.
The Rams also saw a pair of solid performances from the team's relay teams. The Rams' 4x100m relay team took the track with a 22nd place finish with a 46.63 in the event. The Rams' 4x400m relay team placed 57th at the meet with a 4:01.33 as well.
The Rams jumps were the first to compete in the prestigious meet. Freshman Mikel Franklin placing 18th in the women's high jump at 5'4.25" (1.63m). Junior Akenah Cherry added a 38th place finish in the women's long jump with a 16'7" (5.05m) jump. Senior Lyssa Wallace-O'Neal was the only WSSU thrower to compete as she placed 37th with a 42'1.5" (12.84m) throw.
