PITTSBURG, KA – The Winston-Salem State University track & field team will make its return to the national stage when the sprinter duo of junior Ma'Kyia Gayden and sophomore Victoria Porter take part in the 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet, Friday and Saturday.
Gayden is scheduled to hit the track first when she takes part in the women's 60m dash preliminaries. She enters the meet with a season-best time of 7.47 that she ran at the USC Indoor Open. The time was the best in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region and it is the fourth best time nationally. She will compete in the second heat of the event which is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
Porter will take part in the women's 400m dash. When she takes the track in the first round of the women's 400m dash, she will make history as the first WSSU runner to participate in the event. She enters the event with the 18th best time in the nation when she ran a 55.16 at the 2019 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships. She will be in the second heat of the event which is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
The 2019 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championship Meet will take place at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas and it is hosted by Pittsburg State.
