CONWAY, SC - The first day of competition at the 2006 Shamrock Track and Field Invitational came to a close on Friday afternoon with rather uneventful happenings for the Rams and Lady Rams.  WSSU competed in only one event on the day with the track events to begin on Saturday at 9:00 am from the campus of Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC.

Host-team Coastal Carolina turned in a great performance on Friday as their program continues to improve.  Sophomore Thomas Jordan (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) finished first in the javelin with a throw of 64.33m (211'1"), while freshman teammate Kyle Hoddy (Griswold, Conn./Griswold) placed second with a toss of 59.09m (193'10"). Junior Galen Jones (Evans, Ga./Lakeside) posted his second consecutive personal best in the hammer with a throw of 56.48m (185'4"), finishing third in the event and improving his NCAA Regional qualifying mark.

This throw also placed him in the second spot on CCU's all-time records. Junior Tommy Sugishita (Arroyo Grande, Calif./Arroyo Grande (Moorpark JC)) threw 54.04m (177'4") to finish fourth in the event, while sophomore Jacob Edelman (Dryden, N.Y./Dryden) placed eighth with a personal-best toss of 49.94m (163'10"), the sixth-best throw in Coastal history and four meters longer than his previous best.

Both the Rams and Lady Rams will return to action at 9:00 am as they showcase their talents in the track events.
