Lady Rams Struggle in Three-Set Loss to Lees-McRae

WINGATE, NC – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams (0-3) closed out a tough weekend when the team took a three-set loss to Lees-McRae (2-1) on the second day of the 2012 Wingate Classic. With the loss, the team finished the two-day event with an 0-3 record against some top-notch competition.

The Lady Rams stepped their defensive efforts in the game with 8.0 total team blocks in the game, but the team struggled on their offensive effort with 23 attack errors in the match and finished the day with three set losses, 25-15, 25-21, and 25-15. WSSU sophomore Chelsea Violenes led the way with six kills for the Lady Rams. Junior outside hitter Avoni Seymour added five kills. Junior Katelyn Sigala added 10 digs in the match. WSSU senior middle blocker De Ann Smith led the WSSU defense with seven block assists in the match.

With the loss, the Lady Rams open the season with an 0-3 record, but the team will return home for the next competition when they host Mars Hill in a 6:30 p.m. match, Tuesday.
